ABOUT US
La Sonrisa del Lagarto is a Spanish-Brazilian theater company created in 2001 by actresses, directors and playwrights Ave Hernández and Marli Santana, both with extensive experience in the performing arts.
La Sonrisa arises with the illusion of creating shows and telling stories that not only entertain but are able to move and confront the public with current issues (ecology, sustainability, bullying, gender violence, xenophobia, homophobia, social inclusion, etc.), with artistic projects aimed at all audiences and diversifying their work with productions that use different disciplines: shadow theater, actress theater, dance, puppetry, clowns, live music, are some of those used in their productions.
The company has been invited to participate in national and international festivals, representing Asturian and Spanish culture in countries such as Argentina, Portugal, Dominican Republic and Colombia.
Since its creation, it has received public recognition and awards for its shows such as the one given to its recent children's show, "La Mona Simona", which received the award for best theatrical production, FITIJ 2017 in the Dominican Republic. Their productions are subsidized and receive support from INAEM, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, Gijón’s Municipal Foundation of Culture, Sgae and Laboral City of Culture.
