Casa de Muñecas
SYNOPSIS
Nora, a woman like so many others, married and apparently happy, abandons everything, home, status, family, money and prestige, to find herself, without lies or deceit, paying the price of an insecure and lonely freedom.
Since its premiere on December 21, 1879 at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen and on January 20, 1880 at the Royal Theater in Christiania, Nora and her final door slam became the banner of feminism and its author the standard bearer. In this play, with the Helmer marriage, Ibsen,in his own words raises the relationship between the sexes.
"There are two kinds of moral codes, two kinds of conscience, one of men and one of women. And women are judged according to masculine law (...) A woman cannot be herself in modern society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess female conduct from a male point of view".
This is what European women were like in the 19th century. Many things have changed since then, but... has that much really changed?
